1957

European Economic Community Foundation

EEC (European Economic Community) was established. Turkey was not yet a member.

1963

Association Agreement

Ankara Agreement was signed between Turkey and EEC. This agreement started Turkey's EU process.

1987

Full Membership Application

Turkey applied for full membership to EEC.

1999

Candidate Country Status

Turkey was given candidate country status at the Helsinki Summit.

2005

Negotiation Process Started

EU membership negotiations started between Turkey and the EU.

2016

Negotiation Process Slowed

The negotiation process slowed down due to various political and economic reasons.
